REQUIREMENTS? MODEMS? INSTALLING Windows Media Player? Windows Media Player? MVLS DT 3.01?

REQUIREMENTS: A Pentium 90 MHz or better with min. 16 MB RAM, 20 MB free disk space, running Microsoft Windows 95 or NT 4.0, and a 28.8 Kbps modem or faster is required to use these applications.

NOTE TO USERS OF 28.8, 33.6, 56Kbps MODEMS:      You can also use these applications to learn how to use various Microsoft products. The video will drop frames depending on your connection speed. To update your screen at any time, just pause the video, then play...the screen should refresh to the closest frame....if not, you can always rewind.

Should you wish to view full motion video, but you can't upgrade your connection speed, we have CD-ROM's with the same excellent courseware on them.

Just contact Multimedia Solutions at 403-233-9411 or email us at webmaster@mmsdn.com .

Installing the Windows Media Player:

After clicking on the "Get Microsoft Windows Media Player", choose the hyperlink "download" on the Microsoft Windows Media Player page. You will be taken to another page where you will click on the hyperlink "begin downloading".

A dialog box will then appear, asking you to "run this program from its current location" or "save this program to disk". The choice is yours. If you "run" the program, it will self install after downloading.

If you save the program to disk, you will have to remember where you saved it to, then run it by double-clicking on it (eg. mpie4ful.exe) when fully downloaded. It will then install itself onto your machine.

2. A dialog box will then appear, asking you to "run this program from its current location" or "save this program to disk". The choice is yours. If you "run" the program, it will self install after downloading. Continue to step 4.

3. If you save the program (MVLS NETSHOW DT3_01.exe) to disk, you will have to remember where you saved it to, then run it by double-clicking on it (MVLS NETSHOW DT3_01.exe) when fully downloaded.

4. You may be asked whether to install the unsigned authenticode application...select yes.

5. The installer will then begin to install the application onto your machine. You will be prompted to continue at the "Welcome" screen...choose "next".

6. If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, choose "Yes". If you don't agree,  you will be prompted to "exit setup".

7. If you have 10MB free space on your "C" drive, just choose "next" for the default installation path, and continue to step 9.

8. If you don't have 10MB free space on your "C" drive, choose "browse", and select the drive and directory where 10 MB free space is available. If you don't have 10 MB free space anywhere, you'll have to "cancel" the install, and then choose "exit setup".

9. Choose "next" to accept the default installation folder.

10. Choose "finish" to complete the installation.

11. Close the readme file after reading it. The MVLS DT 3.01  for NetShow icon will now appear on your desktop and start programs menu. Select one of these items to start the application.

12. The course menu screen will appear. Highlight the course you wish to take by clicking on it. (If your modem is a 28.8, 33.3 or 56 Kbps modem, select a course that states 28.8 Kbps+ beside the course name). Then click "start course".

13. The log in screen will appear. Enter in your own unique user ID (make one up). Enter in your own unique password (make one up it should be different from your ID). Remember or write these down for the next time you re-enter the applications...the databasewill remember where you left off. If you're contacting our server from behind your corporate firewall, you may see the message "Sorry the database could not be reached...". In this case, you may continue on by selecting "yes", however, the database will not remember where you left off the next time you return to the application. (This will be corrected in later versions). Selecting "no" will return you to the login screen. However, if you are behind a firewall, you will never be able to connect to the database with this version, so either choose "yes", or plan on exiting the application.

14. You are now in the application itself. On the left are the "segment" buttons. There are usually 4 to 5 segments per course. In the center of the screen are the course topics. You're recommended to take the courses in order from top down, in order to work along with the instructor.

15. On the top are the Index, Quiz and Exit buttons. The Index allows you to retrieve video clips on specific topics, much the same as a search engine. The Quiz button when clicked on, quizzes you on the topics from the segment that you're presently in (the segment in yellow text). Exit will send your info to the database (if you're not behind a firewall) and then close the application.
